The 35 year tribute. #PotterBirthday

Beginnings and endings from the beginning to the ending...

Today is a very special day for all the amazing people in the world who are celebrating today. And if you still don't know what I'm talking about, I beg you, PLEASE wake up! Today Harry Potter turns 35 years old! And now I'm going to shriek in excitement:- EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There, got that out of my system. Now, where was I? Right.

To say that  I'm a Potterhead is most likely the understatement of the year. The book series are my sole reason of existence. And to explain this to people who have never understood the need and beauty of Harry Potter; or the even worse type, those who ACTUALLY find it boring, is well, to put it lightly, EXCRUCIATING.

You don't know WHY it is so much better than the movies. Or how we grew up, along with the characters of that beautiful dimension. I cried with those people, I laughed with them, I mourned with them, I celebrated with them, I lived with them.

Don't tell me they're not real. Don't tell me the movies were better. Don't tell me it's immature. Don't tell me there are other works worth reading. Because guess what? No matter how old I am, or how messed I am, I can always pick up those books and lose myself in them and feel like I belong. You wouldn't know that, I don't blame you. Muggles usually don't know very much.

And no matter what happens, there won't go a day when I don't remember you. I will never forget the way, Neville loves his parents, or that time Dumbledore gifted Harry the Invisibility cloak, or the countless times when Percy made a fool of himself and yet how we missed him when he left the family; or Fred's jokes, or every Quidditch game, or Dean's subtle soccer reference, or Hermione's frustration at people not loving books as much as she does, or Sirius, or the loss of Tom Riddle's childhood, or my hatred for Snake, or Dmbledore's funeral, or the way Sirius died, in battle, or Molly killing Bellatrix, or losing Fred.

I think I'm too deep to come out and I know I don't want to. So, thank you ever so very much Ms. Rowling for giving me a gift I cannot imagine living without. Here's wishing you a Happy Birthday and hoping that you keep on writing.

Yours,
Zoe Summers

My Open Letter To Vivienne Westwood

Dear Dame Westwood,

Before I begin with the issue I would like to talk on, I want to confess how nervous I actually am. You see, I am a HUGE Vivienne Westwood fan. She is on the list of people I look up to. So yes, I am aware that she is probably never going to read this, but what comes on the internet, stays on the internet. And I'll most probably make a fool of myself.

But I think I've rambled enough, so I'll now get to the point. I cannot stress the importance of stopping Shell from destroying the arctic. And I'm so grateful that you're doing this. If the Shell drills in the Arctic, the rate of global warming will speed up almost double. The ice sheets will melt. Millions of life forms will be destroyed. Sea levels will rise all around the world significantly. Very soon, our planet won't be like the one we know. It would be worse than how it's portrayed in the sci-fi shows. Because it would be REAL.
Nobody really realizes how serious the situation is. If we continue in this direction, we might not have a planet to live on. So, I'm extremely grateful to you for staring this whole campaign and making such a strand on it. You are truly what creativity is all about.

I sincerely hope that you continue doing all the amazing things that you do. It's people like you who restore my hope in humanity. That maybe there really is a future for our planet. But, we still have a long way to go because Shell is pretty determined to start drilling in the Arctic. And I hope that in this way we win our common fight and the Arctic is safe again.

Yours,
Zoe Summers

#RIP Dr. Kalam

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam
Last night we lost Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam to a cardiac arrest. To say that he was an amazing human being would be the understatement of the year.
Thank you for your contributions to science.
Thank you for your contributions to our country.
You were one of the many reasons I am so proud to be an Indian.
I guess the only regret that remains is that I never got to meet you. I had so many questions for you. Not to mention that you were a part of my bucket list. So yes, you will be remembered for raising the bar higher for all of us.
Thank you so much for being the person you were.
May you find peace wherever you are.

Yours,
Zoe Summers

Please Stop It. ( I think I've had enough of it)

I write this post in a state of deep frustration. You see, two men, I have recently grown to admire a lot have basically shattered all my hopes in humanity. If you don't know it yet, I am a Muslim girl who wears a hijab. No, I am not suppressed, nor does anyone force me to wear it. I choose to wear it of my own accord. These two men happen to be my Chemistry and Biology Foundation sirs. They have declared me a bad influence on other students solely due to the fact of my religion. What I'm trying to say is, please stop. I'm just like you. I'm a normal peace loving person and sometimes the racism gets a bit too much.

That's it.

Yours,
Zoe Summers

Long Live the Rainbow Warriors

Tomorrow, 30 years would have passed since the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior.

To those who don't know, The Rainbow Warrior was a ship named after a
a North American Cree Indian prophecy: “When the world is sick and dying, the people will rise up like Warriors of the Rainbow…”
In July 1985, it was docked in New Zealand, protesting against the French Nuclear testing in Moruroa Atoll. The attack came at midnight, two explosions, one after the other.

The whole ship sank, not to mention Fernando Pereira, a 35 year old photographer who was there to photograph the nuclear testing and show the world it's horrors.

He was only 35 years old. He had a whole life ahead of him. He had a family, he had a job, he had a life. But apparently, the French Secret Services did not think of that. Their only objective was to stop the voices trying to save the planet they lived on.

I am aware of how furious New Zealand was about this. I am aware that not all French people are like this. But don't you get it? Fernando Pereira will be forgotten in the pages of history over the course of years. This whole fucking incident will be forgotten.

I know that it has been 30 years. And the only reason I write this post is to honour the man who died in the battle. And the children he left behind.

Lemony Snicket

This is why he is literally the best. Am I the only one who thought he was a fugitive writing the stories on the run from the law.

I really hope they don't ruin the T.V. series.

Hey Jude

the beatles

Hey Jude, don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better
Hey Jude, don't be afraid
You were made to go out and get her
The minute you let her under your skin
Then you begin to make it better
And anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrain
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders
For well you know that it's a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder
Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah
Hey Jude, don't let me down
You have found her, now go and get her
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better
So let it out and let it in, hey Jude, begin
You're waiting for someone to perform with
And don't you know that it's just you, hey Jude, you'll do
The movement you need is on your shoulder
Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah yeah
Hey Jude, don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her under your skin
Then you'll begin to make it
Better better better better better better, oh
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey Jude
